Kristen’s special interests include depression, grief and loss, anxiety, stress, substance misuse, interpersonal and family difficulties. Kristen is a process based, attachment and trauma informed, emotionally focused therapist. Her main therapeutic modality is Cognitive Behaviour Therapy which is an evidence-based approach for treating a range of mental health conditions and the level one 'gold standard' psychological intervention for her areas of special interest. Kristen is, however, flexible and adaptable in her therapeutic work, drawing upon therapeutic strategies associated with a number of other evidence-based approaches such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Positive Psychology to tailor therapy to best meet her client’s style and needs.

Kristen endeavours to employ a compassionate and collaborative approach in her work assisting clients to not only reaching their goals for treatment but become more effective problem-solvers when faced with future life obstacles. She has gained valuable knowledge and skills over the course of her education, training and clinical work and strives to provide quality care, beginning with a thorough interview during the initial session to further her understanding of client’s concerns followed by several therapy sessions during which time she shares her assessment and rationale for her planned treatment approach with clients. Kristen also aims to be feedback seeking, build upon her knowledge and skills base, and exceed her professional development needs and engage in lifelong learning into the future.

Kristen has also previously worked as a lecturer contributing to the foundational training and development of the future psychology workforce at a local university. She also has a passion for research and up until recently continued to work as a research officer at another regional Queensland university contributing to the knowledge of the discipline.
